TOUR C255 - WALKING TOUR OF BRYGGEN AND MOUNT FLØIEN
| Duration: Approx. 2.5 hours | Price Range: TBC |
Accompanied by our guide, we walk along the quayside passing King Haakon’s Hall and continue alongside the harbour to the Hanseatic Pier at Bryggen, with its characteristic wooden medieval warehouses with pointed gables facing the harbour. From here we meander between the charming old buildings and alleyways and you will have an intimate picture of what it was like to live in the town some 150 years ago. These buildings are now on UNESCO’S World Heritage list, and today Bryggen is a fascinating honeycomb of active workshops where painters, weavers and craftsmen produce fine quality and original items. We shall visit one of the oldest and best-preserved buildings which now houses the Hanseatic Museum, furnished in the style of the 1700s, and our guide will paint an intimate picture of the life of a Hanseatic merchant. From here we proceed to the funicular station for a ride to the summit of Mount Fløien. The eight-minute ride on the funicular will take us safely up a track at an incline of 26 degrees, with stops along the way for commuters, to a height of 1,050 feet above sea level. From the top you can enjoy the magnificent view of the ships in the port and the red-tiled roofs and church spires of Bergen far below. There will be time for photographs before we return by funicular, and our walk will end at the fish and flower markets close to the harbour, from where it is a pleasant 15-minute walk back to the ship. On foot/funicular, subject to a minimum of 25/maximum 60. Please note: This tour involves considerable walking, some over cobble-stoned streets and uneven ground in Bryggen, and is not suitable for passengers with wheelchairs or those with walking difficulties. Flat, comfortable footwear is essential. |
