GEIRANGER
TOUR C240 - FJORD CENTRE AND DALSNIBBA
| Duration: Approx. 3.25 hours | Price Range: TBC |
The Geirangerfjord is without doubt the most beautiful of all Norwegian fjords. Majestic mountains, impressive glaciers and cascading waterfalls give this fjord its unique character. The tour starts from the small village of Geiranger, which with 260 inhabitants is one of the most well-known tourist resorts in Norway. The coach climbs up the winding mountain road, which offers an ever-changing kaleidoscope of mountain farms, waterfalls, lakes and streams, to Lake Djupvatn, and continues round hairpins to the summit of Mount Dalsnibba, 1,500 metres above sea level, from where we have a spectacular view of Geirangerfjord far below and the magnificent mountain peaks all around. On the way down to Geiranger, we stop at the Flydal viewpoint to take pictures of the classical Geiranger motif of the fjord, with our own cruise ship anchored in the bay. The recently-opened Norwegian Fjord Centre has a unique design that, when seen from above, resembles a spearhead pointing towards the fjord. Inside you will be able to experience a ‘real avalanche’ from a safe distance, and learn something of the immense difficulties encountered building the Geiranger road, and of the challenge and dangers these people faced daily, simply reaching and leaving their homes and mountain pastures. There is a giant-screen cinema with ‘special effects’ that takes you on a journey through the Geirangerfjord, as well as an art galley and much more besides. After the visit, passengers can either take a leisurely 15-minute stroll down the hill to the quayside, or return directly by coach. By coach, subject to a minimum of 35/maximum of 200. |
