TOUR C222A - THE FLÅM RAILWAY (MORNING DEPARTURE)
| Duration: Approx. 3.5 hours | Price Range: TBC |
Flåm is situated in the innermost part of the 200 kilometre-long Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and most majestic fjord. After disembarking the ship at the pier which is also the railway station, we join our train to start the most dramatic train ride in Europe. Although only 12½ miles long, this line is a masterpiece of engineering. On the tour you will pass through 20 tunnels and climb to a height of 2,845 feet, where the beautiful valley offers a breathtaking view down the steep-sided Flåm Valley, situated between towering mountains perpetually covered in snow and ice. At one point in your journey you will be able to see three rows of tracks below as the train travels above. In order to allow passengers the best possible view of the magnificent scenery, the train will proceed slowly or even stop at the finest sections such as the Kjosfossen Waterfall, where we may leave the train for a closer look or take a photograph. On arrival at Vatnahalsen, we leave the train and walk approximately 100 metres to the Vatnahalsen Mountain Lodge, where coffee or tea and home made cakes have been prepared for us. Afterwards, there will be time to stroll around or just relax and admire the spectacular scenery. After a stop of around one-and-a-half hours, we rejoin our train for the return ride to Flåm. Morning Tour C222A: By train, subject to a minimum of 90/maximum of 220. AfternoonTour C222B: By train, subject to a minimum of 90/ maximum of 250. |
