SOUTH QUAY CRUISES

m/s Marco Polo sails from London Tilbury
A choice of four cruises 19th April - 25th April, 25th April - 1st May, 1st May - 7th May, 16th May - 22nd May

An early Spring evening’s departure from Tilbury provides a leisurely passage along the River Thames as you look forward with anticipation to some breathtaking Norwegian scenery on this short cruise to the majestic fjords. In Hardanger, you may be lucky enough to experience the myriads of apple orchards in full blossom along the fjord’s shore, whilst in the Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, the sheer mountains and cascading waterfalls are a spectacular sight.

After a day at sea heading towards the Scandinavian coast, you awake to find yourself cruising gently along the splendid Hardangerfjord. Your first landfall is at the pretty village of Ulvik. Perhaps you choose to take the overland tour and rejoin the ship during the afternoon or maybe you decide to stay aboard and cruise the short passage into the small fjord that bears the name of the village of Eidfjord, your next port of call. From here, we journey into the mighty Sogne. A brief stop is made at Vik to disembark those taking the famous Norway in a Nutshell tour that rejoins the ship in Flåm. Situated at the head of the smaller Aurlandsfjord, Flåm is the terminus of the incredible Flåmsbana, the amazing railway line that climbs up a 1 in 18 gradient to Myrdal and ultimately links the district with Bergen & Oslo. Our Flåm Railway tour this afternoon could be the highlight of your cruise. The delightful old Hanseatic port of Bergen is our final call, where you can shop to your heart’s delight or simply enjoy the ambience of the historic Bryggen district. Following a south-westerly route, all too soon Marco Polo arrives back in Tilbury.
